The P.1 variant, originating in Brazil, has mutations in its spike protein, making it more resistant to vaccines targeting the virus’s spike protein. B.1.617 is the most recent designated variant of concern. First detected in India in October 2020, B.1.617 has increases in transmissibility, virulence, and resistance compared to the SARS-CoV-2.
